Delhi sharpshooter held after bike chase, gun-fire exchange in Dwarka

A senior police official said that a sharpshooter named Kapil Sangwan of a dreaded gangster of Delhi was overpowered by special team of Special Cell on Monday

A sharpshooter of a dreaded gangster of Delhi was overpowered by special team of Special Cell on Monday morning. A senior police official said that the special cell had been working on inputs against various gangsters of Delhi in a big to stop illegal activities.

Acted on the tip-off

They got a specific tip-off regarding Kapil Sangwan of Nandu gang. The police team developed the info and came to know that Kapil would be coming to Dwarka area to commit a robbery. The police knew that he had conducted recce before committing the crime.

“After this we formed a special team to nab him. A trap was laid near Dwarka area. Kapil came there by bike. He was asked to slow down the bike but instead he accelerated the speed and tried to run. Our team chased him for one kilometer and intercepted him. He was asked to surrender before the police, but he took out a pistol and opened fire at the police team. He was firing indiscriminately; the police also launched a counterattack. We fired on him. He suffered a bullet injury on his leg and fell down on the road,” the police official said.

Involved in more than a dozen cases

His weapon was seized, and he was immediately taken to a nearby government hospital by the police PCR. He underwent surgery there for the bullet injury. A case in this respect was lodged with the Special Cell of the Delhi police under various sections of IPC. The police official said that Kapil was involved in more than a dozen cases of robbery, attempt to murder, arms act, extortion, kidnapping and murder. “Kuldeep Rathi was earlier arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police in connection with an arms act case. He applied for bail and was granted by the court. After coming out of bail he did not surrender and was on the run after that. He was then declared offender by the court,” the police said. The official said that they were working on the case and were expecting another arrest of his gang.
