Delhi: Special Cell of police nabs gangster after exchange of fire

The leader of an infamous gang was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi after an exchange of fire, which left the leader injured after he was shot in the leg

The leader of an infamous gang was arrested by the police after an exchange of fire, which left the leader injured.  According to a statement released by the Delhi Police, the incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, on October 17. A team of special cell officers under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Lalit Mohan and ACP Hridaya Bhushan executed the operation with took place near the Dwarka metro station in Delhi.

Tewatia is an accused in over half a dozen cases

The leader of the infamous Tewatia gang, Prince Tewatia was shot in the leg during the exchange of fire, however, his partner in crime, Pramod managed to escape from the spot. Prince Tewatia had skipped parole and is reportedly an accused in over half a dozen cases which include murder and attempts to murder in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). Tewatia was also allegedly running an extortion racket in the southern zone of Delhi, according to the statement.

Delhi Police's string of successes 

The Delhi Police, in the past one week, had a string of successes in solving cases related to snatching and nabbing wanted criminals. Today was another such day, as the criminal was nabbed even after him and his accomplice fired five rounds, while the police team fired eight in exchange. Police have seized the car being used by the criminals and recovered one illegal firearm along with four live rounds and three mobile phones from it. The team also recovered one firearm along with reportedly empty bullet cartridges from the spot where the exchange of fire took place.

Delhi Police Special arrests two wanted criminals in two separate incidents

On Tuesday, the Delhi Police Special Cell had arrested two wanted criminals after separate encounters in the national capital on Monday evening, officials said. In the first incident, a 32-year-old man was arrested after a brief exchange of fire from near Bhalswa landfill at around 9 pm, police said. "The accused has been identified as Pratham Anand, a resident of Tilak Nagar. He was wanted in a case after his video of firing in a house in the area of Mahendra Park, Delhi went viral," said Pramod Singh Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell). 

In another incident, police arrested Imran (25), a resident of New Usmanpur, around 8.10 pm on Tuesday from near Rajghat after a brief shoot-out when he came there on a scooter, police said.  "He fired three rounds from his pistol and in retaliation, police fired four rounds. He suffered gunshot injury in his leg," a senior police officer said. He was wanted in a robbery case of Shashtri Park. He was earlier arrested in as many as seventeen cases of robbery-cum-snatching, the officer said.
