J&K Divisional Commissioner says, 'Situation in the Valley is improving every passing day'

Baseer Ahmad Khan, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, on Tuesday, November 19, said the situation in the valley is improving with each passing day. He also informed that traffic, trade and business in the valley is increasing gradually. The valley recently started receiving the snowfall of the season which had affected the power transmission lines. These cables have also been restored in the valley barring a few areas.  

Other improvements in the valley 

Apart from this, a few other changes that the valley has seen in the past few days includes the resumption of the Banihal-Srinagar train services after being suspended for about three-and-half months. This decision of restarting the train was taken after appropriate action and assurance by Government Railway Protection Force, Jammu, and Kashmir, regarding the safe operation of trains in the Kashmir Valley. Many blockades were imposed in the region for security reasons prior to the abrogation of Article 370.

Divisional Commissioner on improvements seen in Kashmir 

While speaking to the news agency ANI, the Divisional Commissioner, Baseer Ahmad Khan said that "The situation is getting better every passing day. Traffic flow has increased, trade and business have improved. Power transmission lines that were damaged due to heavy snowfall have almost been restored barring a couple of areas. Things are totally under control”.

Normalcy has been gradually returning to Jammu and Kashmir as mobile and landline services were restored post-abrogation of Article 370 after communication services were blocked in the region to prevent rumour-mongering. In August, the Central government announced its decision to scrap Article 370 and bifurcate the erstwhile state into two Union Territories (UTs) -- Jammu and Kashmir with legislature and Ladakh without one. On October 31, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh came into existence as separate UTs.
