Encounter breaks out in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara, 2-3 terrorists trapped by Security Forces. UPDATES here

An encounter broke out on Friday between the Security forces and terrorists in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

An encounter broke out on Friday between the Security forces and terrorists in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. As per initial reports, security forces received information about the presence of 2-3 terrorists and trapped them.

Terrorists opened fire towards the security forces, who retaliated bravely. 

"The hiding terrorists opened fire at the security forces, triggering an encounter," a police officer said.

There were no reports of any casualties so far in the operation, the officials said.

The Firing has stopped and the forces have launched a cordon and search operation in Babagund area of Kupwara.

On February 22, 2019, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. A terrorists was gunnd down by the forces following the encounter. 

Earlier on February 18, 2019, three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed in an encounter in Pulwama in south Kashmir. One of them was Jaish-e-Mohammed chief operation commander and JeM founder Masood Azhar's top aide Kamran.

Kamran was a Pakistani national who went by the alias Gazi and was heading all operations in the valley.

The Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir police, SOG CRPF Joint operation in Pinglina carried the joint operation. One Army Major and three soldiers were martyred in the operation. A civilian was also killed during the operation. He was the house owner of the place where militants were hiding. He might have been taken as a human shield. 

The encounter which began at 1:00 am on Monday went on for over 10 hours in south Kashmir. It took place barely 15 km from CRPF 76 battalion ambush site. Troops had recovered one AK-47 rifle and one pistol.
