India celebrates Engineers Day on September 15 every year, which is the birth anniversary of M Visvesvaraya, an engineering pioneer of the country. M Visvesvaraya, India's engineering pioneer
Visvesvaraya was the 19th Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1919. He was the chief engineer responsible for the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara dam in the north-west suburb of the city. Besides this, he also served as the chief engineer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad. He was not only knighted by King George V but also awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955 for his exceptional contribution towards construction and consolidations of dams throughout India.
PM Modi, others extend wishes
Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes on Engineers Day. He reckoned that engineers showcased the quality of diligence and determination. PM Modi further said that human progress would be incomplete without their innovative zeal. He also paid tribute to M Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary. A host of other dignitaries including Union Ministers and Chief Ministers too wished the people.
