Singer-turned politician Babul Supriyo has alleged that West Bengal police threatened singer Shaan, saying they will cancel the license to his upcoming show if Supriyo attends it. In a tweet, Union Minister Supriyo said that Shaan called him up and said that police officers woke him up from sleep and threatened to cancel license to the show if I go to watch it! Infuriated.
Later, while speaking exclusively to Republic World, an enraged Supriyo said, “I don’t understand what stops me from going and watching a show?”.
“I was in Kolkata, I was in my constituency, my two dear friend Shaan and KK were coming to do a show -No 1 Yaari Hai. Shaan called me, he tweeted two days back, saying, ‘I will see you there’, I will see you in Calcutta, I am coming to my dear friend’s constituency. And now suddenly, they all went and barged into Shaan’s hotel room and said that if Babul Supriyo comes then we will cancel the license of the show. I don’t understand what stops me from going and watching a show? Even the official tour programme has been sent to the West Bengal government now and the police is escorting me to Asansol. And, this police in Asansol are going and threatening them. Now, they are requesting me not to come (sic),” said Supriyo.
The Union Minister also added that even a police officer called him and warned him that if he goes to the show, it will be at his own risk as they will withdraw the police force.
“And they told me - Mr Mukherjee, that is the name of the police. He called me up and said that if you come, we will withdraw the police force and it’s your risk. Is this a democracy?,” said the singer-turned politician.
In another tweet, Supriyo said that he will not go to the show as he doesn’t want either Mamata or her police to spoil Shaan and KK’s show.
In yet another tweet, Supriyo said that even as he was stopped from attending the show, Asansol Mayor and other TMC netas are there in the venue. “What the hell is happening in West Bengal?” asked Supriyo.
