Terming it one of the important challenges facing India and Maldives, PM Modi called terrorism a threat to the human race, while pointing out how it continues to grow with state-support in many cases. The Prime Minister also appealed for a global conference over the issue so that loopholes used by the terrorists can be blocked.

PM Modi said, “Terrorism is a massive challenge of our generation. The danger is not just for one region or country, it is a threat to the entire human race. There’s not even one day where terrorism doesn’t show its dangerous side and takes the lives of innocents.

"Terrorists neither have their own banks, nor the factory for weapons, still there is never any shortage of funds or weapons for them. How do they receive all this? Who gives them all these facilities? The state sponsorship to terrorism has turned out to be the biggest threat. It is extremely unfortunate that people are still making the mistake of differentiating between good terrorists and bad terrorists.

"We have wasted a lot of time over disputes. The water is going over the head. To get out of this challenging situation, all forces uniting is very important.

"To bring ourselves out of terrorism and radicalisation is the biggest challenge for world leadership. In the same way as the world community have taken on the threat of climate change, having participated in conventions and discussions, why aren’t such discussions taking place for the issue of terrorism? I appeal to the world bodies and all the important nations, that within a particular time period, they conduct a global conference on terrorism so that discussions on closing the loopholes the terrorists and their supporters use can be discussed. If we delay it any further, then today and the generations to come after that, won’t forgive us.”
