A youth is believed to have come into his furniture shop at 6.30 pm on Tuesday and shot him thrice in the lower body before he escaped.

Former Aam Aadmi Party’s district president Suresh Sharma has been shot at by an unidentified assailant in Amritsar on Tuesday evening.

He has been shot by a youth who came to his furniture shop at 6.30 pm and shot him thrice in the lower body before escaping. He has been taken to a private hospital immediately. He is not in a condition to record his statement, the police said.

The police is collecting recordings from security cameras in his shop and commercial establishments located close to the incident.

Sharma is an active RTI activist and an anti-corruption crusader and has been critical of rival politicians and political parties. 

A supporter of former AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira, he resigned as AAP’s district president when Khaira was replaced as leader of opposition in Punjab earlier this year.
