Actress Payal Rohatagi who is quite vocal about her political opinions on social media is in the headlines but for the wrong reasons this time. Payal’s tweet on Maharashtra’s warrier King Shivaji has brought her into deep trouble.

Payal in her tweet wrote: "chhatrapati shivaji maharaja was born in #shudra varna in family of farmers & by sacred thread ceremony & remarriage to his spouse made a #kshtriaya so that he could be coronated #King So people from 1 Varna could go 2 another Varna if they acquired that skill NO casteism ?" Payal Rohtagi’s above controversial tweet went viral on social media & people from all the sectors started demanding an apology from Payal for insulting King Shivaji.

Political parties also jumped into this controversy & demanded an apology or an arrest. Vice president of NCP Maharashtra Jitendra Awhad had reacted to Payal’s tweet & wrote on his Twitter handle: "@Payal_Rohatgi now take it as a warning don't distort history b were u are on 3rd page but plz don't comment on things which u are unaware about"

NCP did not stop here. The workers of NCP filed a written complaint against the actress & demanded to arrest Payal for her controversial tweet as soon as possible. Raj Thackeray’s party MNS & Congress also said that Payal should be arrested for her hurting the sentiments of crores of followers of King Shivaji.

While speaking to Republic TV, chief spokesperson of NCP, Nawab Malik said that Payal had not insulted King Shivaji but the pride of Maharashtra as well. Her controversial tweet could create law & problem in Maharashtra. He asked CM Devendra Fadnavis to take action against Payal or else people might come on the streets to protest.

But despite facing so much flak on social media Payal has not yet apologized for her tweet. In fact, she has asked an answer from the NCP MLA Jitendra Ahwad through her tweet in which she wrote: "Being from a family of farmers & belonging to #Shudra Varna is not a #crime. Some say that #ShivajiMaharaj was from #Kshtriya Varna which is also OK. But Hindu Indians should know REAL facts about their KING. Why Marathas given #Reservation quota in Maharashtra? #MondayThoughts"

NCP has said that they will protest against her till she is arrested. Mumbai police have accepted the written complaint of NCP & said they will look into this matter.
