Earlier on Friday, Mehbooba Mufti had hailed Nirmala Sitharaman stating that she is the first woman to helm the crucial portfolio full time. Mufti further added that Sitharaman as the first woman Finance Minister shattered the "glass ceiling by all means".

Nirmala Sitharaman has taken over from Arun Jaitley who served as the Finance Minister in the first Modi Cabinet. Notably, she is the first woman to take the position as the Finance Minister of India independently under Narendra Modi government after former PM Indira Gandhi, who served as the Finance Minister under her government as the Prime Minister. She had broken through the exact same glass ceiling when she had been appointed Defence Minister as well.
