GOA TO OBSERVE SEVEN DAYS STATE MOURNING

The Government has expressed profound sorrow on the sad demise of Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar, in the state of Goa on March 17, 2019. 

As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, seven days State Mourning will be observed throughout the state of Goa from 18/03/2019 to 24/03/2019 both days inclusive.

During the period of State Mourning the National Flag will fly at Half Mast on all the buildings throughout the state of Goa where it is regularly flown and there will be no official entertainment.

Goa government announced on Sunday that it would observe seven days of state mourning, from March 18, 2019 to March 24, 2019.

A statement from the government said:

"The Government has expressed profound sorrow on the sad demise of Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar, in the state of Goa on March 17, 2019.

President of India announced that the Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar has passed away.

The former Defence Minister was suffering from a serious pancreatic ailment and was at his private residence at Dona Paula in Goa. 

Parrikar has had an illustrious political career, he has been serving as the chief minister of Goa since March 2017 and previous to that served as the chief minister from 2000-2005 and from 2012 to 2014.

The former Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh, in the Narendra Modi government also served as the Defence Minister from 2014-2017.
