At the  Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) meeting on Monday, chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the dates for the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament were finalized.

The session which will be for 18 working days, would be between 18th July till 10th August.

While the Government has reached out to the opposition seeking their cooperation for a productive session to pass important legislature, the opposition has hit out strongly.

Leading the attack is Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha, Derek O'Brien.

He took to Twitter to say,  "Parliament dates announced. Under NDA government a drastic reduction in the number of working days. Monsoon Session ran for 26 days in 2010 & 2011, now reduced to a mere 18 days. Number of days for government business reduced by a week. This Govt never serious about Parliament."

Earlier, the Budget Session hardly saw any work happening in both Houses. The demand for special status for Andhra Pradesh protest by both TDP & YSRCP followed by No Confidence Motion ensured disruption. Also in both houses parties raised the issue of Mehul Chowksi, Nirav Modi fleeing from the country after defaulting on bank loans.

TMC also raised the rising price of fuels, while DMK and AIADMK raised the Cauvery Management Board issue, resulting in a near washout.

This time too the Government has listed a number of key Bills including the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Third Amendment) Bill, 2017, Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017, Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016, National Medical Commission Bill, 2017, Rights of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Second Amendment) Bill, 2017, inter alia, for consideration and passing in both the Houses of Parliament.

However it will be a tough ask since the opposition will also come in well prepared to take the battle on demanding answers whether on jobs and employments, lynching issues, targeting of opposition issue, desperate attempt to form government in Karnataka, violence in Bengal amidst others.

Not to forget it will be NDA vs Opposition battle just as both sides will fight hard to get a candidate of their own to get consensus for the post of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. The post will become vacant after the term of PJ Kurien comes to an end this month.
