Hapur Lynching Case: SC issues notice to Uttar Pradesh government, orders Meerut IG to probe matter and submit report

The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government regarding the Hapur lynching case and has ordered IG Meerut to initiate an inquiry and submit a report for the same. 

Earlier, the Supreme Court heard the plea of a survivor of the Hapur lynching. The survivor sought a court-monitored probe into the matter along with the cancellation of the bail of the accused and transfer of the case outside Uttar Pradesh. Previously, four accused in the Hapur lynching case were granted bail earlier this month. They reportedly told the court that they had no role in the attack.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra had earlier said that the case required urgent hearing after the Uttar Pradesh Police had termed the incident as a road rage mishap.

A video of a man, who is being accused of cow slaughter, has surfaced online. In the clip, the victim has been forced to confess his role in slaughtering and this has been traced to a village called Hapur in Uttar Pradesh. The video has the attackers hurling abuses at the victim as he's being physically assaulted. The former lost his life succumbing to injuries he suffered in the fatal adverse situation he was dragged in.

In reference to the Hapur lynching incident, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi launched an attack towards the BJP government and said that the ideas of cultural merging are just left in the books.

Owaisi said,"See when Kasim was killed, was it a matter of cultural merging? Even if I want this country to have cultural merging. All the while you are alive remember my words that there would be no cultural merging as the ideas of cultural merging are just left in the books. All the politicians that are sitting in Delhi and talking about merging, I want to tell them that you may hate me but the dead of Kasim will force you to think.  My brother Kasim was killed in Uttar Pradesh and what did they do then?"

He further added,"Mohammed Samiyuddin, a 60-year-old man had three injuries mark on his head. His hand was cut, his palm was cut. That 60-year-old could have been your father too. I am not telling you to sit in the crowd with teary eyes but I am trying to wake your conscience to be bold and fearless. All these talking about secularism are the biggest hypocrites who have exploited us and scared us."
