Telangana BJP State president,  Dr K Laxman on Saturday, September 7, expressed distress over the sudden breakout of dengue and malaria. Speaking to ANI, Laxman said that Telangana government should declare a health emergency in the state as  'Hyderabad has become a capital of dengue and chikungunya and now the entire state is dealing with malaria and dengue without proper equipment and a shortage of nursing staff and even doctors.'

Laxman also tweeted about his visit to the hospital and his interaction with the afflicted people-

Aayushman Bharath and Aarogyasri 

'Adding to these statements, Lakshman further said that this was a health emergency, but the government out of prestigious issues are not even adopting Aayushman Bharath and Aarogyasri. Due to a lack of facilities in hospitals, poor people are losing their lives', he claimed. 

Declaring a health emergency gives resourceful provisions to handle the public health crisis. Malaria and dengue are both diseases that occur in tropical countries with symptoms like fever headaches, extreme fatigue, intense muscle pain and lower back pain among others. Both diseases may result in death and are therefore extremely lethal.

Dengue breakout in Delhi 

About 75 dengue cases have been registered in Delhi in 2019 so far, out of which at least 35 were reported in August alone. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a special campaign against Dengue where he checked his house for any stagnant water to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases. He urged people to follow the same and tweeted about it.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Dengue has taken more than 80 lives and affected around 80,000 people in 2018. It was reported that it killed 325 people and affected around 1,88,401 in 2017 across the country.
