Addressing the 51st conference of governors and Lieutenant Governors at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the national capital, New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday urged Governors and L-Gs to create awareness among people about goals set by India at the COP26 summit and climate change.

"PM Narendra Modi has set ambitious goals in front of the whole world at the COP26 summit in Glasgow. The five 'Amrit tattva' (nectar elements) set by PM Modi is a challenge for us which will give us a big reward on completion. The next generation will play an important role to achieve these goals from 2030 to 2070," Shah said.

"Government schools, colleges and universities should spread awareness about these messages and global warming. The government will try to encourage people but Governors should also put efforts," he added.

The Union Home and Cooperation Minister stressed that the role of Governors is important in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP). He said that around 70% of universities are state-controlled and about 80% of the students study in these universities.

"Under the leadership of PM Modi, along with the state governments, we have together fought this COVID-19 pandemic successfully. We have crossed 100 crore vaccine doses and are moving away from the shadow of this Corona pandemic. India fought against Coronavirus as “Ek Rashtra, Ek Jan, Aur Ek Man” (One nation, one people and one heart) and the world is appreciating how we fought battle against COVID-19. PM Modi held at least 20 meetings with Chief Ministers and also held several meetings with governors," he said.

"When we are meeting today, it is the year of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, due to this the importance of this conference increases. I believe Governors can also play a significant role in ensuring public participation in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav," Amit Shah said.

The 51st Conference of Governors and Lieutenant Governors was attended by President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, PM Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Shah. This was the fourth conferenced presided by President Kovind.
