Prime Minister Narendra Modi after reaching the city of Houston, said that he had an 'excellent interaction' with the Sikh community who received him with warmth. He also praised the community’s passion for the development of the country. PM Modi, on his tour to the USA, will be attending the historic Indian-American event and the United Nations General Assembly. After his arrival, he was warmly received by the Kashmiri Pandits and the Sikh and Bohra communities. They thanked, congratulated and felicitated him in their own way.

The interaction with Sikh Community

One of the members of the Sikh community said, "PM’s presence in Houston demonstrates the power of the community. The fact that the President of the United States is flying down specially to welcome the Prime Minister shows the world that we are on the right side. The elections showed that the Prime Minister in India delivered on every promise and anybody who’s challenging the Prime Minister are on the wrong and India’s on the right." He also thanked PM Modi on behalf of the whole community. He said, "On behalf of the Indo American community in Greater Houston, on behalf of the Indo-American chamber that I am one of the co-founders of and on behalf of all the Sikhs, we are very very grateful for the PM to accept the invitation to come to Houston." Additionally, a statement issued by Avinder Chawla, sitting Commissioner of Arvin, California said, "We submitted a memorandum and thanked Modi ji for what he has done for the Sikh community. We thanked him for the Kartarpur corridor. President Trump is coming here tomorrow (at Howdy Modi), which shows how important a leader PM Modi is."

Howdy Modi!

The Houston event will be Modi's third major address to the Indian-American community after he became the prime minister in 2014 and the first after his re-election in May. The previous two were at the Madison Square Garden in New York in 2014 and the Silicon Valley in 2016. The 'Howdy, Modi!' event is being organised by the non-profit Texas India Forum, a recently formed representative body of hundreds of Indian American organisations in Texas and other parts of the US. Also, a 90-minute cultural program titled, “Woven: The Indian-American Story”, is going to be performed at the event celebrating the contributions of Indian-Americans to the cultural, intellectual, and social landscape of the United States. The program will start at 10:00 am preceding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address.
