'Howdy Modi' Summit: Houston's Texas India Forum prepares to welcome PM Modi during his visit to US in September

Giving Prime Minister Narendra Modi a jolly Texas welcome, the Indian community in Houston where he is slated to address a summit on September 22, during his visit to the United States has named the summit -'Howdy, Modi!' The summit will be hosted by the Texas India Forum in Houston.

The event is expected to bring together thousands of people to encourage and explore common interests and an expanded partnership between the United States and world's fast-growing economy - India said a statement from the Texas India Forum.

Describing the electric atmosphere in the community regarding the impending summit, Jugal Malani, a convener of the 'Howdy, Modi!' organising committee said:

"There is unprecedented synergy between our region and the aspirations of a 'New India' that Prime Minister Narendra Modi represents. The American dream shares many similarities with the emerging Indian dream, and an event of this scale suggests an opportunity to build bridges across two great democracies." 

In addition to the Prime Minister's address, the event is expected to include a cultural program that will showcase the Indian-American community and will be broadcast live and on television channels reaching over one billion people across the US and India, the statement said.

Indian-Americans Thrilled Over PM Modi's Possible Community Address In Houston

Houston, which has one of the largest concentration of the Indian-American community in the US, is the energy capital of the world. Energy security is a priority area for the prime minister.

This will be Modi's third major address to the Indian-American community after he became the prime minister in 2014 and the first after his re-election in May. The previous two were at the Madison Square Garden in New York in 2014 and the Silicon Valley in 2016. Both the events were attended by more than 20,000 people.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to address the Indian diaspora on September 22, at the NRG Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 45,000 people, the Indian community leaders said.
