'Humara CP kaisa ho, Kiran Bedi jaisa ho' chant at Delhi cops' protest

Delhi Police personnel while protesting against Tis Hazari clashes, raised slogans favouring former IPS officer Kiran Bedi when CP urged them to maintain peace.

Amid the tussle between the lawyers and police in Delhi over the clashes outside Tis Hazari Court on November 2, hundreds of police personnel staged an unprecedented protest outside the police headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday. When Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik appealed to them to maintain peace, he was booed by his own force with "Humara CP (Commissioner of Police) kaisa ho, Kiran Bedi jaisa ho" slogans.

Delhi Commissioner said Police must return to their duty

Addressing the protesting police personnel, Patnaik said that the police are the law-keepers and have to make sure that the faith reposed on them by the government is not broken. Urging the protesters to return to their duties, he said, "The last few days have been a turmoil for Delhi Police. We are adept at handling difficult situations. We have handled the situation in a good manner up till now. We will handle it in a proper manner. we must keep in mind that we are the keepers of law and we should follow it. this is our test. Govt has a lot of expectations from us. We are the law keepers. ANd this is also a moment of wait for us. It's a wait because HC has set up an inquiry commission. We should keep our faith that we will get justice. Whatever incident has happened there will be legal action. And we have fulfilled our duty as per our tradition. I urge you to go back to your duty points. Go back to your duty points and follow discipline."

Bar Council Chief tells lawyers to resume work

Calling protesting lawyers to resume Court work immediately, Bar Council of India Chief Manan Mishra, on Tuesday, has issued a direction to all Bar Associations in the capital to recall their resolution on abstaining from work. Talking to Republic TV on the newly issued orders, he stated that lawyers must call off their protest and must avoid any untoward incident. He added that those police personnel responsible for lathi charge and firing at the lawyers will not be spared as well as those lawyers inciting violence will be punished.

What was the scuffle about?

The lawyers have claimed a scuffle broke with Delhi Police after they were denied parking space. Lawyers claimed that Police officers heckled them and open fired. As many as four lawyers were injured. At least 20 police personnel were also injured while 17 vehicles vandalised, according to officials and eyewitnesses. On the other hand, Delhi police claimed that violence began on Saturday after on-duty officers objected to a lawyer parking his car in front of a lockup. A police statement said that a large number of lawyers responded angrily to their request. CCTV footage shows lawyers manhandling the police officers.
