IMD- the India Meteorological Department has issued an extremely heavy rainfall warning over isolated places in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and West Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. Further, the weather forecasting agency has also predicted heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Andaman& Nicobar Islands, Assam, and Meghalaya throughout the day.

IMD issues warning

According to the meteorological department, thunderstorm accompanied by a wind speed of 50 to 60 kmph is likely to occur at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Further, IMD has also predicted lightning at isolated places over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal. The IMD stated in its All India Weather Warning Bulletin that, "Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Gujarat Region will also likely witness showers." According to the weather agency, strong winds are likely to prevail over the west-central and south-west Arabian Sea. The wind speed is likely to reach around 40 to 50 kmph. Subsequently, squally weather conditions are likely to prevail over the Andaman Sea. The meteorological department has advised all the fishermen to not venture into these areas. According to reports, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Uttarakhand is 68 which is considered to be 'moderate'. The temperature is at 31 degree Celsius, while humidity lies around 71 per cent.

Uttarakhand floods 

Last month, around least 18 people went missing after a flood in the Tons River washed away around 20 houses in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, following a heavy rainfall. The IMD had issued an extremely heavy rainfall warning during that time. With continuous rains, Uttarakhand has been experiencing landslides and floods this year. According to sources, the overall death toll due to heavy rains has been over 60 in Uttarakhand. In another incident last week, several vehicles were crushed under a landslide on the Govindghat on the way to Hemkund Sahib in Gopeshwar in Chamoli district, stated reports.
