IMD issues Yellow alert for Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram district

The IMD on Wednesday issued a Yellow Alert for October 30 in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala after it witnessed heavy rains followed by strong winds

Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram district witnessed heavy rainfall and strong winds on Wednesday. After taking the current situation under consideration, a 'yellow' alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the district for October 30. A few days ago, IMD had issued a yellow alert for Ernakulam, Alapuzha and Idukki districts for October 30, and in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts for October 31. Not just the isolated parts of Thiruvananthapuram, but some areas over Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry may receive heavy rainfall today.

Thunderstorms over west-coast predicted

IMD has also predicted thunderstorms with fast winds over Vidharbha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Konkan regions. The agency said that the sea conditions over the west-central and east-central are predicted to be rough over Southeast Arabian Sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. "Under the influence of system over Comorin area and adjoining Equitorial India Ocean, heavy to very rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep and heavy rainfall over Rayalseema and Karnataka up to October 31," the statement added. 

Cyclone Kyarr to re-curve west-southwestwards

According to IMD, the cyclone Kyarr has weakened into a very severe cyclonic storm at 05:30 IST of October 30. To recurve west-southwestwards during the next 6 hours and move towards Socotra Islands.

IMD warns fishermen

The Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) South Zone Head on October 30 had the fishermen to not venture in the areas situated near the South West Bay of Bengal. According to the Deputy Director-General of Meteorology, S Balachandran, the fishermen are advised not go in areas of Mannar, Maldives, Lakshadweep, South Kerala, and South Tamil Nadu from October 29 to October 31.
