India Post Payments Bank accounts to be blocked If PAN card not updated? PIB clarifies

As digital payments grow in India, scammers are using a new approach to commit fraud. Recently, the customers of India Post Payments Bank have been receiving an SMS claiming that their accounts will be blocked if they fail to update their PAN card details.

The content of the SMS reads, "Dear users your India Post Payments Bank account has been blocked today, please updated your PAN card immediately." The message also carries a dubious link.

Rebutting the claim, the Press Information Bureau called it fake. "This claim is #Fake. India Post never sends any such messages. Never share your personal & bank details with anyone."

Earlier, India Post Payments Bank had also advised customers to not click on unknown links or share personal banking details with anyone.

"Scammers, fraudsters are making fake calls or sending fraudent message in the name of India Post Payments Bank to extract sensitive or demand amount for getting job or Appointment of Business Correspondent (BC). We urge people to remain alert and do not fall prey to such scams. Do not click any unknown link, share confidential details over phone/SMS or pay any amount without verification from official sources," India Post had said.
