Indian Railways bags 17 awards for energy conservation. Full details inside

The Railways has won 17 awards at the 'National Energy Conservation awards 2018' on Monday. This is the highest number of awards bagged by a single organisation.

The Railways has won 17 awards at the 'National Energy Conservation awards 2018' on Monday. This is the highest number of awards bagged by a single organisation. The Minister of Railways and Coal, Piyush Goyal, congratulated the officials for the achievement and wished them all the luck for future.

It participated in three categories-railway stations, hospitals and institutions out of the five major categories in which awards are given covering different sub-sectors.

  • Transport category (Sub-sector railway station): Under this category, India railways obtained 10 awards
  1. Vidisha railway station in Madhya Pradesh which won the first prize
  2. Jamnagar Station in Gujarat second prize
  3. 7 certificates of merit were given to Dwarka, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Guwahati, Jaipur and Kazipet respectively
  • Building category (Sub-sector Railway hospitals): Under the building category, Indian railways bagged 3 awards
  1. Railway hospitals of Izzatnagar division won the first prize
  2. Railway Hospital of Rajkot division second prize
  3. certificate of merit to Railway Hospital of Ratlam division
  • Institution category (Sub-sector state PWD, CPWD and PHED): Under this particular category, Indian railways won 4 awards
  1. Passenger reservation system complex building of Secunderabad division won the first prize
  2. Rail Soudha zone HQ office building 2nd prize
  3. Certificates of merit to rail Nilayam in Secunderabad and Hyderabad Bhawan (DRM Hyderabad office) 

These awards were given by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of the ministry of power Government of India to various Institutions for adopting Energy Efficiency measures for reducing energy consumption and the cost.

Indian Railways is putting in efforts to improve the quality of train journeys for the passengers without any jerks.

After receiving feedback from passengers about the amount of discomfort due to jerks in Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) Coach Trains like Rajdhani Express Trains, Railways has examined the issue put forth by the expert committee of Railways.

An action plan was also formulated to give attention on longitudinal jerks in Centre Buffer Couple (CBC). The committee has also advised to replace the single pack of draft gear and floating plate draft gears CBC with balanced draft gear CBCs.
