Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has tweeted on Monday about the Congress backed-EVM hackathon in London rubbishing the claims of opposition parties that the voting machines can be hacked.
"After Rafale, the non-existent loan waiver to 15 industrialists – the next big lie – EVM hacking. Was the Election Commission and millions of Staffers involved in manufacturing, programming of EVMs and conduct of elections during the UPA Government in collusion with the BJP – absolutely rubbish. Does the Congress feel that the people are so gullible that they will swallow any garbage? Insanity in the Congress party is increasingly becoming contagious," he said.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has said that his party has demanded for an investigation by the Election Commission to do 50% sample check.
"There are hardly countries in this world which have the machines. The event in London adds to the significant body of thoughts which has great doubts about the authenticity of the machines. Many developed countries have discontinued EVMs. All parties are very concerned about EVMs -- we discussed this matter in Kolkata. Now that you have VVPAT paper trail why don't you (EC) do a paper trail of 50% sample check. This needs investigation by the EC. Congress has nothing to do with this event," he said.
Singhvi also said that Kapil Sibal was present at the event in a personal capacity. "Ashish Ray invited him (Sibal), he went there in personal capacity. He was not representing Congress there," he said.
