Under pressure with instances of weapons loot by own men, J&K police has ordered reshuffling of Personal Security officers of all protected persons.
As per the document accessed by the ‘Republic Tv’, Jammu Kashmir Police has come up with reshuffling of PSO’s who are deployed with Politicians for more than 7 years. This is being done after many PSO’s in the past have ran away with weapons and later joined Militancy.
The weapon loot by some policeman, while they fled, was also a big concern for security forces. This shuffle is said to lower the risks of any security concern the agencies have.
In Dec 2018, militants decamped with four rifles from the residence of a Congress legislator in Srinagar on Sunday. Muzaffar Parray, a Legislative Council member, was in Jammu along with his family when the rifles were stolen. His personal security officers (PSOs) were detained for questioning over the missing weapon and the SSP security was attached.
On September 28, eight weapons were looted from the official residence of the then Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Ajaz Mir in Jawahar Nagar area. Incidentally, the two quarters are a stone’s throw apart.
It later turned out that Special Police Officer (SPO) Adil Bashir Sheikh deployed as Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Ajaz Mir, then representing Wachi constituency in the state assembly, had decamped with seven AK 47 rifles of his colleagues and licensed pistol of the legislator. The legislator was away in Jammu when the loot occurred, and his guards had left the residence after locking the weapons in a steel truck
