J&K: Satya Pal Malik reviews Eid-ul-Azha arrangements, mandis to be set up, students' travels to be facilitated

In a review meeting held at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik oversaw arrangements for enabling people to perform Friday prayers and for the celebration of the festival of Eid-ul-Azha in the coming week.

In a review meeting held at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik oversaw arrangements for enabling people to perform Friday prayers and for the celebration of the festival of Eid-ul-Azha in the coming week.

The Governor was informed that to facilitate people for buying animals on the occasion of Eid, mandis will be set up at different locations in the Valley and ration shops, grocery and medicine stores have been asked to remain open on this occasion.

He has issued directions that students from outside J&K who wish to go to their homes for the celebrations of Eid may be facilitated. Further, Governor Malik has sanctioned Rs 1 lakh each to designated Liaison officers for organising Eid festivities for students from J&K who are studying in other states and are unable to come to their homes on the occasion. He has also passed directions for setting up telephone lines in Deputy Commissioners’ offices for students to talk to their families back home

Governor has directed his advisors to provide daily updates to him regarding the prevailing situation in J&K, in the aftermath of developments in the Parliament relating to Jammu and Kashmir, he reviewed the to-date status of law and order and provision of basic services and essential commodities to people as well.  KK Sharma, K Skandan, advisors to Governor; BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary briefed Governor about their assessment of the situation and informed that the overall situation is satisfactory.

NSA Ajit Doval on two-day review of state 

NSA (National Security Advisor) Ajit Doval went on a two-day review visit to the Jammu and Kashmir amid the security conditions in the region. In the eight exclusive videos accessed by Republic TV from his visit to the Shopian region, the NSA can be seen having lunch with the local citizens of the region. He can be seen interacting with the locals, taking a review of their day-to-day activities and assuring them that the situation is normal in the sector. 

Parliament revokes Article 370, passes J&K Reorganisation Bill

This development has come amid the revocation of the provisions of Article 370 that gave Jammu and Kashmir a special status. The Lok Sabha passed the resolution on Tuesday, while it was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The BJP-led Modi government had moved the resolution in Parliament to revoke the special status of J&K and the Bill (Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019) seeking bifurcation of the border state into two Union territories - Jammu and Kashmir with legislature and Ladakh without legislature.
