It’s rare that as many as six hashtags for one person trends on Twitter, and that says it all about how proud the IAF pilot has made us with his feat against the neighbouring country. Celebrities have been tweeting about him right from the time he was captured by the Pakistan army and praying for his safe return to the country. Like is usually the case, some celebrities don’t have much to say, but express a lot with a few words and those who are effusive in conveying their feelings. That was the case about Deepika Padukone, Anupam Kher and Janhvi Kapoor’s welcoming of our brave IAF pilot.

Deepika and Kher proudly exclaimed ‘Jai Hind’, the former sharing the tricolour, the latter a brilliant poem on an animated image of our hero, with the fighter jets making the tricolour, and we know the impact the two words have on the citizens especially in the celebratory mood the country is in right now, courtesy Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

Janhvi also used our most popular patriotic cry and her words just summed up the impact that the people of the country feel about IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. “Welcome home Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman! A symbol of dignity, strength and valour. An inspiration and reflection of everything our nation strives to stand for. #jaihind.”

The IAF pilot, who was captured in Pakistan, was brought back to India through the Wagah-Attari border on Friday evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also welcomed Wing Commander Abhinandan back to India and told him in no uncertain terms that the nation is proud of the courage he displayed during his two-day captivity in Pakistan, and also most-definitely, each day of his life before that.

Wing Commander Abhinandan crossed back into India at the Wagah-Attari border shortly after 9 pm on Friday. He had fallen into Pakistan's clutches after his MIG-21 Bison shot and brought down a Pak F-16 as the Indian Air Force sent a 24-strong Pakistan Air Force jet-fighter formation packing, foiling the belligerent nation's attempt to attack India in retribution for the precision strike India had conducted on Pakistan's terror factories along the LoC on Tuesday morning.
