Jammu's Central University to establish Kalam Centre soon, MoU signed

The DRDO and the Ministry of Defence and Central University of Jammu have signed an MoU for building the Kalam Centre for Science and Technology at university.

The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence and Central University of Jammu (CUJ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for building the Kalam Centre for Science and Technology (KCST) at the university on Thursday. The MoU was signed by DRDO Chief G Satheesh Reddy and CUJ in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. According to sources, the Centre will be set up at the University in Jammu.

During the event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his best wishes and said that the centre will be a national asset and it will also contribute to making India stronger and prosperous. The Secretary of Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy stated that in a very short time a world-class centre is being set up in CUJ and develop state-of-the-art systems. Apart from the other dignitaries, Vice-Chancellor of CUJ Prof Ashok Aima and Director General (Technology Management) DRDO Shri Sudhir Gupta were also present at the MoU signing ceremony. Further, the Chancellor of CUJ Ambassador G Parthasarthi also appreciated DRDO for establishing such an initiative.

Features of the Kalam Centre for Science and Technology

According to reports, the main objective of the MoU was undertaking and facilitating multidisciplinary directed basic and applied research and technology development in the identified research- Computational System Security and Sensors. Further, the new Centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The equipment will lead to an increase in research scholars, said sources. The  Centre's partner Central University of Jammu (CUJ) is a Central Government funded University. It was established under the Central Universities Act 2009 with a vision to contribute knowledge and technology innovation to the world.
