Some states opposing the Act

Some states in the country have decided not to implement the Act because of the steep penalties. On one hand, some are saying that the Act would overburden people, on the other, some reportedly stated that it may lead to higher levels of corruption. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has denied the implementation of the act as the penalities will overburden people. Earlier on September 12, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had said that the Central government did not take the states into confidence before implementing the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019.
