Jitendra Singh: 'Huge potential for food processing units in J&K'

Union Minister Jitendra Singh met with Japanese Ambassador & congratulated him for a successful tenure in India and for contributing to India-Japan relations

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh on Monday said that there is a huge potential for opening specialised food parks for apples, cherry, strawberry in Jammu and Kashmir for which Japan can be a partner since it has specialisation in food processing units. "There is huge potential for opening specialised food parks for J-K apples, cherry, strawberry and Ladakh berry, on the lines of citrus fruit parks in the northeast," Singh asserted.

Technical Intern Training Programme

The Union Minister’s statement came during a meeting with the Japanese Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu. An official release of the meeting said that during the meeting, Singh discussed various projects from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and the northeast region. Singh also brought the discussion of the Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP) through which 12 candidates from Jammu have been selected in Japanese companies. The Japanese Ambassador assured that he would extend TITP programme in North Eastern region with the participation of Government of Japan. The Union Minister then proposed that 100 students could be taken in future under TITP programme from Ladakh as well, with 50 each from Leh and Kargil.

Singh congratulates the ambassador's successful tenure

Singh congratulated the Japanese Ambassador for his successful tenure in India and his contribution towards realisation of the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe. The release said, “the Japanese Ambassador has spent about 3 years and 11 months in India and his tenure in India witnessed the unprecedented transformation of India-Japan relationship.” 

With the collaboration between the two nations, there has been significant progress in various domains such as bullet trains, nuclear, space technology, and railways, Singh stated. He further added that Japan shares emotional and historical relations with India, especially in the North East. 

Singh mentioned that Hiramatsu’s tenure saw some major achievements and thanked him for playing a crucial role establishment of the India-Japan Act East Forum. He stated that the Forum has brought all the relevant stakeholders together, and moved towards implementation of ongoing and new projects in the North-East region.
