Kailash Satyarthi congratulates daughter for winning Changemaker award

Kailash Satyarthi, Noble Prize winner congratulated his daughter Payal on Wednesday for winning Changemaker award from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Kailash Satyarthi, the Noble Peace Prize winner, congratulated his daughter Payal Jangid on Wednesday for winning the Changemaker award from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Jangid was given the award on Wednesday in New York at Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards, recognizing her campaign to end child labor and child marriage. Taking it to Twitter, Satyarthi congratulated his daughter. 

According to reports, Payal has served as the head of the Bal Panchayat (Children's council) in her village- Hinsla in Rajasthan. She was a part of the 'Bal Mitra Gram' (Child-Friendly Village) program that falls under her father Satyarthi's Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).

The annual Goalkeeper awards

According to the Gates Foundation, the Goalkeepers Global Award is awarded to someone who takes a stand on the issues they care about and innovate in their communities to achieve the Global Goals. The award is presented in five categories to leaders and individuals for their efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The categories include- Progress, Changemaker, Campaign, Goalkeepers Voice and the Global Goalkeeper.

PM Modi receives the global goalkeeper award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honoured with the award on Wednesday (IST) by the founder of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates for India's progress in the 'Swachh Bharat Mission'. Bill Gates before presenting the honour to PM Modi, played a video featuring the surprise voice over by the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, presenting some detailed statistics to the audience. Gates also explained how sanitation-related illnesses take more lives than any other illnesses like Malaria. The 'Swachh Bharat Mission' was launched by the Modi government in 2014. The mission focuses on the construction of household toilets, community, and public toilets and solid waste management.
