Around 63 celebrities across all professions in the likes of Bollywood, theatre artists, and professors have written a letter on 'selective outrage' and 'false narratives' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking exclusively to Republic TV, Indian film director, Vivek Agnihotri, and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut have stood by the 'selective outrage' counter letter stating that they are 'people who are misusing their power and position to generate a false narrative that under the current government things are going wrong'. Ranaut stated that the common people have chosen their representative leaders and the ones who have disregarded it are the ones who have 'no respect ' or 'consideration' for democracy.

Vivek Agnihotri, on the other hand, launched a personal attack on Anurag Kashyap calling him a 'leftist' and mentioned that Aparna Sen is often seen spending time with Naxalites. Expressing shock over the fact that one of the signatories of the 'intolerance' letter Binayak Sen is a convicted Naxalite, Agnihotri said, "From the past five years, there is a trend of sorts that has started wherein fifty people or so bring up the 'intolerance' debate saying that the whole Hindu community is responsible for it, but this is highly incorrect".
