Kiran Nagrakar, author of 'Ravan and Eddie', passes away in Mumbai

Famous writer and journalist, Kiran Nagarkar passed away at 77. He was best remembered for his book 'Ravan and Eddie'. Nagrakar was also a renowned playwright

Notable writer and playwright, Kiran Nagarkar has passed away at the age of 77 in Mumbai on Thursday. Nagrakar was undergoing treatment for a brain haemorrhage in a private hospital where he took his last breaths. He is survived by his partner Tulsi Vatsal.

Nagarkar penned down various famous books like Ravan and Eddie (2004). His novel 'Cuckold' (1997) also won him a Sahitya Akademi Award. 'Cuckold' told the story of Lord Krishna devotee, Saint Meerabi's husband.

Most noted modern English Writers in post-independence India

A noted English-Marathi Journalist, Kiran Nagarkar was born and raised in a middle-class Maharashtrian family. Nagarkar was respected as one of the most noted modern English writers in the post-independent India.

Nagarkar's first Marathi novel, 'Saat Skkam Treychalis' which came in the year 1974 and was later translated into English with the title 'Seven Sixes are 40'.

Apart from books, he also made multiple contributions in the field of journalism, academia, and also wrote plays like 'Kabirachau Ki Karaychay' and 'Stranger Amongst Us'. Kiran Nagrakar's screenplay work included, ' The Broken Circle' and  'The Widow and Her Friends'

Along with Sahitya Akademi award, Kiran Nagarkar was also a recipient of various other awards including, the HN Apte award for the best first novel, Dalmia award and a receiver of the renowned Rockefeller Grant. He was also awarded with a scholarship by the city of Munich.

Kiran Nagarkar's other works

Some of Kiran Nagarkar's notable works as an author include, 'God's Little Soldier' (2006), arguably his most famous work, 'Ravan and Eddie' (2004) and the combined sequels  to both books, 'Ravan and Eddie - The Extras' (2012) and 'Rest in Peace Ravan and Eddie' (2015).

The Writer's last book, The Arsonist was published in 2019 by Juggernaut Publications.
