On October 2, the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju will launch the ‘Plogging Run’ under the banner of Fit India movement. The Minister has requested everyone to participate in the event. “While jogging to pick up plastic and other garbage, this way it will lead to cleanliness and also there will be fitness," Rijiju added, "We need to turn Prime Minister Narendra’s Modi Fit India movement into the people’s movement because if we are fit then India is fit."
Please join #PloggingRun on 2nd Oct Gandhi Jayanti. We can collect any litter on the route while jogging. The trash collecting activity while jogging will make India more CLEAN & FIT. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously said that health consciousness is the key to good health. He had urged all to make it a mass movement similar to that of 'Swachh Bharat' Mission. Prime Minister said that technology has contributed to a sedentary lifestyle but fitness has been an integral part of India's culture. He said that the initiative is the need of the hour and will take the country towards a healthier future.
PM Modi, during his Independence Day speech, had also raised the issue of plastic pollution and had urged people to shun the use of single-use plastics. He had appealed people to take up the issue on the lines of Swachh Bharat Mission which turned into a nation-wide campaign after his call to make India clean. “During my 2014 speech, I spoke about cleanliness. It became a movement in the country and the common man took it up with gusto. Today, I have another request. By October 2, on the birth anniversary of Dear Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi), I want to urge the citizen to give up single-use plastic,” PM Modi had said.
