Maha: Couple, driver killed as car hits bridge railing

A couple and their car driver were killed when the vehicle rammed into the railing of a bridge in Maharashtra's Amravati district while they were returning home from Nagpur, police said on Thursday.

A couple and their car driver were killed when the vehicle rammed into the railing of a bridge in Maharashtra's Amravati district while they were returning home from Nagpur, police said on Thursday.

The couple's 20-year-old son was seriously injured in the accident that took place near Anjangaon Surji town around 11.30 pm on Wednesday, a police official said.

The family had gone to Nagpur for a medical checkup of the victim woman, he said.

While returning home, when the car reached Pandhari bridge, its driver apparently lost control over the wheels, following which the vehicle rammed into a railing of the bridge, the official said.

The couple, who were residents of Anjangaon Surji, and the car driver, a native of Sategaon village, died on the spot. The couple's son received serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital in the town, the official said.

The car was badly damaged in the accident, he added.
