Maharashtra adds 7,089 new COVID-19 cases, 15,656 recover; 165 die

Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 15,35,315 on Monday with the addition of 7,089 fresh cases, the state health department said.

The state had reported 10,792 fresh cases on Sunday.

With 165 patients succumbing to the infection, the overall toll mounted to 40,514, it said.

Of the 165 deaths, 100 occurred in the past 48 hours, while 21 had taken place last week. Remaining 44 fatalities had occurred before the last week, the department said.

15,656 patients were discharged after treatment in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 12,81,896, it said.

The state has 2,12,439 active cases at present.

While the case recovery rate in the state stands at 83.49 per cent, the fatality rate is 2.64 per cent, the department said.

At 1,620, Mumbai city reported the highest number of cases in the state in the day, taking the cumulative count to 2,31,066. The death toll mounted by 36 to 9,469.

While 317 new cases were reported from Navi Mumbai, Nagpur added 306 infections and Thane 302.

The number of cases under Pune Municipal Corporation areas rose by 364, the department said.

Out of the 7,089 new cases, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) accounted for 3,160.

The MMR, which includes Mumbai city and Thane, has till now reported 5,32,554 cases and 16,998 fatalities.

Currently, 23,23,791 people are in-home quarantine and 25,951 in institutional quarantine.

76,97,906 samples have been tested across the state so far, the department said.
