Maharashtra Floods: Agencies supply relief materials as rescue operations intensify

Maharashtra has been suffering the onslaught of heavy floods since 9 days. While rescue operations in Maharashtra's flood-hit Kolhapur and Sangli districts are over, the focus has now shifted on providing essential supplies to the flood-affected victims.
Despite extensive rescue operations being conducted by the NDRF teams, some villages in the Kolhapur district continue to undergo a flood crisis. One such is the Shiroli village in the Hatkanagle tehsil in Kolhapur district. While majority of the people have been rescued or evacuated from the village, there are still some who continue to remain stuck amid the ongoing floods.
While efforts are being made to carry relief materials and other provisions to these flood-hit areas, it is still falling short of the number of people affected by the rains.
As per latest updates, the rains have caused a mass scale destruction in terms of destroying crops and spreading illness as well. Pounding rains also led to the submergence of many villages like Hasur which in due course was completely cut off from any mode of communication for the past 9 days.
Overflowing of rainwater also gave way to the entry of poisonous animals like scorpions and snakes inside the houses of the victims. In one such case a man was bitten by a snake.
While the Kolhapur and Sangli districts in western Maharashtra are still struggling to emerge from the massive floods that had swamped the region, meteorological department forecast has predicted heavy to very heavy showers at isolated places in hilly areas in Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts of the state on Wednesday.
