The blame game between All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) continues as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a veiled attack on BJP said that those who razed the statue of Ishwar Chand Vidyasagar, should not dream of ruling West Bengal. During an event in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee said "Modern-day India is different from the old India. We are working under threat. History cannot be changed, Vidyasagar statue cannot be vandalized and then the same people try to rule Bengal. I request all to uphold the diversity of Bengal". The CM, in her earlier statement blamed 'BJP goons' for the desecration of  Vidayasagar's statue.

'Centre does not give us enough to spend': Mamata Banerjee

Adding to her statement, Mamata Banerjee asserted that, "the state government earns from the public to carry out their expenditure. Unlike the Centre, which has an RBI and can withdraw money as per their wish at any time and they can also print new currency. Centre does not give us enough to spend and they take so much tax from the state," She further said "Central government has closed down Sarwa Shiksha Abhiyaan and due to that, we cannot work. We could have done much more."

Statue of Ishwar Chand Vidyasagar  

The new statue of Ishwar Chand Vidyasagar was unveiled on June 11, almost a month after it was smashed during clashes between TMC and the BJP in the run-up to the national election. Mamata Banerjee marched through the city after unveiling the statue.

The statue was vandalized when Trinamool workers and BJP workers clashed on May 14, during a roadshow led by Amit Shah ahead of the final phase of elections in the state. The CM's party argued that "goons from outside who are oblivious of the state's history and heritage, could be capable of damaging a Vidyasagar statue".
