Manipur video: Home Affairs Ministry to refer video case to CBI, seek trial in Assam

The emergence of the video of two women from the Kuki-Zomi community being paraded naked and sexually assaulted caused nationwide outrage.

In the case regarding a video that emerged from Manipur showing two women being paraded naked by a mob of 800-1,000 people, the Union government has decided to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It has also been decided that the case will be tried outside the state of Manipur to ensure a fair investigation. Six cases have reportedly been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and three cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

On July 22, a purported video from West Bengal’s Malda had emerged on social media platforms showing two women being beaten and paraded half-naked. The video showed several women assaulting the two accused women.
