Manish Sisodia appeals citizens to follow Odd-Even rule for 10 days

The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, has appealed to the citizens of Delhi to follow the odd-even scheme for 10 days in order to curb the air pollution menace in the national capital. Odd-Even has been implemented in the National Capital starting today.

'Reduce the source that originates from Delhi'

While speaking to ANI, Sisodia said, “I would appeal to people as pollution has become a huge problem in North India right now due to the stubble burning in the neighbouring States. We cannot reduce the pollution caused by stubble burning at the moment as it has already spread, but we can at least try to reduce the sources of pollution that originates from Delhi.”  

Sisodia even insisted the citizens of Delhi to keep aside the issue of stubble burning from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, and focus on reducing the source of pollution that originates in Delhi. “We will have to do it for our own sake, for our own kids, forget Uttar Pradesh, Punjab or Haryana now. Following the odd-even scheme for the next 10 days will definitely reduce the source of pollution that originates from Delhi. During the time of crisis, if we suffer a little hardship by following odd-even and if it helps to curb the pollution then it will be beneficial to all,” he added.

The Delhi Government on Friday decided to shut all schools till November 5 after a Supreme Court-mandated panel declared a public health emergency in Delhi-NCR in the wake of a spike in pollution level. As the air quality deteriorated and the pollution level in the region entered the "severe-plus" category", the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority banned construction activity till November 5 and bursting of crackers during the winter season. The Delhi Government and municipal authorities also declared holidays in their schools till November 5. 

FYI, an AQI between 0-50 is considered 'good', 51-100 'satisfactory', 101-200 'moderate', 201-300 'poor', 301-400 'very poor' and 401-500 'severe'. Above 500 falls in the 'severe-plus emergency' category.
