I don't want to comment on the merit of the case, as who is right - no. 1 or no. 2. CVC has the power to probe and to investigate this. The government doesn't have this power. Update at 8.33 am: Prashant Bhushan, who had met Alok Verma earlier this month on Rafale, will challenge the government order for change of CBI Director.

Update at 8.24 am:  10th floor and 11th floor of CBI Headquarters which have been sealed host the offices of Director CBI, Special Director CBI and all Joint Directors CBI. Sealing has been done as a standard measure. 


In a massive development amid the ongoing internal war within the CBI, the government has taken action and sent Director CBI (DCBI) Alok Verma on leave.  In a circular that has been accessed by Republic, the Department of Personnel and Training of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has appointed CBI Joint Director M Nageshwar Rao to take over the duties and functions of the Director CBI in the interim.

The move comes amid the backdrop of the top two officials of  India's top investigative agency -- Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana making bribery allegations against one another, with the latter even having a case filed against him.
