Mumbai police solve 2010 Rape-Murder case following the arrest of a serial rapist

Mumbai police have solved an eight year old rape-murder mystery following the arrest of a serial rapist. The Navi Mumbai police have arrested the man who has been accused of raping and murdering at least 17 minor girls, last month. Accused Rehan Qureshi was arrested from Mira road area. As told by police, accused Rehan Qureshi was a pedophile and used to target minor girls. 

Navi Mumbai police have claimed that, during the interrogation, accused Rehan Qureshi revealed that he was involved in the Nehru Nagar rape case. According to police sources, Rehan had accepted his crime. The police also revealed that after the arrest of Javed Shaikh in one of the rape cases, Rehan had gone underground to evade arrest.

In the year 2010, Mumbai was rocked with three back to back cases of rape & murder of minor girls. In February, the body of a 5 yr old girl was found in a drain in the Nehru Nagar area. In March, the body of a nine-year-old was found on the terrace of a police headquarter building.

In June, the body of an eight-year-old was recovered from a dilapidated building of the same area. In all these cases, accused had first raped the girls & later on had brutally murdered them. These serial rape & murder cases have shocked the entire city. Then senior police inspector of Nehru Nagar police station was transferred, ppposition parties had demanded the resignation of the the home minister RR Patil. On the basis of a DNA report, the police had arrested Javed Shaikh for the murder of one of the girls but two cases were still unsolved.

After hiding for nearly 6 years, Rehan again became active in 2016 and started targeting minor girls. In the span of just 24 months, he had raped & molested at least 17 girls. Police have also said that the accused have told police that he didn’t remember how many girls he had raped till date. The police believe that the serial rapist  is still hiding many of his crime history and for which they are probing the case.
