The National Ayyappa Devotee Association has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court challenging the 5-judge Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all ages to enter the Sabarimala temple. This comes after devotees of Lord Ayyappaa staged a massive protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Sunday. They voiced their anger against the Supreme Court's verdict which was pronounced in September.

The city of Delhi witnessed a movement named 'Ayyappa Nama Japa Yatra' wherein a large crowd gathered and shouted slogans against the apex court for a judgment which allowed entry into the temple for women of all age.

This is not the first instance of protest against the court's ruling. Earlier this week, the Yuva Morcha women of the Bhartiya Janata Party protested against the decision by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to not challenge the decision given by the apex court. Claiming that the old-age tradition of the ban on women's entry to the temple should stay, BJP workers, in numbers, put forward their voices.

While we all respect the varied temple traditions followed by devotees in Bharat, we have to also honour the Honourable Supreme Court. In the case of Sabarimala Devasthanam also, it is an issue of a local temple tradition and faith to which sentiments of millions of devotees, including women, are attached. These sentiments of the devotees cannot be ignored while considering the judgement," their statement read.
