NDRF, SDRF release funds for Karnataka flood victims

NDRF and SDRF on Saturday have released funds of Rs 303 crore and Rs 897 crores for flood relief and the rehabilitation for affected Karnataka districts

The State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Saturday have released funds for flood relief and the rehabilitation of affected Karnataka districts. According to reports, while the SDRF has released Rs 303 crore, the NDRF has released Rs 897 crores for the flood-affected victims. Further reports stated that Subash Chandra Meena, Director FCD had issued two separate letters that stated the amount that was released from NDRF and SDRF to the Government of Karnataka for the required relief. 

Central government releases funds

The Central government on Friday released Rs 1200 crores or flood relief works in Karnataka. Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa has also thanked the central government for financial assistance.

Floods hit several states in India

Several Indian states including Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar have been experiencing heavy rainfalls that have led to heavy flood-like situations in the past few weeks. In Karnataka, reports stated that over 80 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents. On September 28, Bihar had received 84.5 mm rainfall against the normal of 5.7 mm. Areas including Samastipur, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, and Bhojpur districts received rainfall above 130 mm in 24 hours, affecting lives to a high level. A red alert has been issued in most of the states.
