Accommodation for the travelers

This initiative by the Indian Government will provide comfort to the passengers as the room gives three-star facilities, and it also has deluxe rooms to accommodate traveling families.

The Indian Railways also recently took a unique initiative to go-green and has installed a PET (polythene terephthalate) bottle crushing machine in Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express. The Rajdhani Express is a super fast train that runs between Mumbai Central and New Delhi. The PET machine can crush up to 3,000 bottles per day and is capable of recycling 90 percent waste bottles. The installed PET machines can accept all types of plastic bottles ranging from 200ml to 2.5 liters. The internal storage bin of the machine has storage of approximately 20 liters which is equivalent to 1,500 bottles.

Changes by the Indian Railways

In order to ban the use of single plastic, the Indian Railway has directed all Railway units to enforce a ban on single-use plastic material from October 2, 2019.

The circular that was issued stated the following-

-Ban on single-use plastic material.
-All railway vendors to avoid the use of plastic carry bags.
-Staff should reduce, reuse and refuse plastic products and use inexpensive reusable bags to reduce plastic footprint.
-IRCTC to implement the return of plastic drinking water bottles as part of Extended Producer Responsibility.
-Plastic Bottle crushing machines to be provided expeditiously.
