No failures in science, says PM Modi inaugurating 5th IISF in Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fifth Indian International Science Festival in Kolkata on Tuesday, addressing the gathering via video conferencing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fifth Indian International Science Festival in Kolkata on Tuesday. The Prime Minister addressed a gathering in the city through video conferencing, and welcomed Minister for Science and Technology, Dr Harsh Vardhan, along with several other Cabinet ministers and state science and technology ministers, dignitaries, scientists, academicians and government officials that are a part of the event. In the inauguration address, the Prime Minister stated that “The 5th edition of the India International Science Festival is taking place at a place that has produced great personalities serving humanity in every field of knowledge.” PM Modi added, “This festival is happening at a time when the birth anniversary of CV Raman on 7 November and Jagdish Chandra Bose will be celebrated on 30 November.”

RISEN: Research, Innovation and Science Empowering the Nation

The Prime Minister congratulated the organizers for deciding the theme of this festival which is “RISEN: Research, Innovation and Science Empowering the Nation. "This theme is in accordance with 21st century India and in this is the essence of our future,”  PM Modi said, adding that the science and technology ecosystem should be very strong - “An ecosystem that is both effective and motivational. We are moving in the same direction.”

Commenting on how the scientific temper is at a different level in India, he stated that, "I am glad that the Scientific Temper is at a different level in the country today." He iterated his point using the example of Chandrayaan-2, "Let me give you a recent example. Our scientists had worked very hard on Chandrayaan-2 and this had raised a lot of expectations. Not everything went according to plan, yet this mission was successful."

'Science is only useful when it is in the interest of society'

PM Modi, commenting on how important is to give the scientific environment a right platform, stated, "It seems that a new wave of interest has arisen in our young students about science. This power, taking this energy in the right direction, giving the right platform, in the 21st-century Scientific Environment, is our responsibility."

'There are no failures in science'

The Prime Minister concluded his inauguration speech by stating. "There are no failures in science, only there are Efforts, Experiments, and Success. Keeping these things in mind, if you progress, then you will not face any problem in the field of science and in life too."
