Forest officials from Badgaon in Odisha rescued an elephant from a well in Birtola village under Badgaon Forest Range in Sundergarh district, on October 23.

Forest officials from Badgaon in Odisha rescued an elephant from a well in Birtola village under Badgaon Forest Range in Sundergarh district. According to reports, a herd of elephants strayed into the village in search of food on Wednesday night, October 23. While the elephants were returning, one of them fell into the mud-filled well and was stuck for hours.
The rescue operation
According to reports, the next morning on Thursday, when the villagers spotted the trapped elephant, they called the forest officials, who then reached the spot shortly with fire department personnel. Further reports stated that it took around five hours for the officials to get the tusker out of the muddy well. A rescue video that was posted on Twitter showed the officials pulling the elephant out of the muddy well and the villagers who were observing the incident cheering them on. After the elephant was rescued, he was released and he walked into the dense forest. The elephant was reportedly a part of a herd of 18 elephants which had come close to Dumerta village in Odisha's Sundargarh district on Wednesday night.

Another rescue operation in Karnataka
In another rescue operation on Friday, October 25, an elephant that entered the fields near a village in Bandipur was stuck in the fields. According to reports, the elephant was rescued with the help of other tamed elephants. Further, the rescued elephant was released in the Bandipur forest.
