Odisha reports 3,144 new COVID-19 cases, 16 fresh fatalities

As many as 1,825 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 1,319 fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said.

Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, the legislator of Mahakalpada seat in Kendrapara district, is among the new patients, the official said. Khurda district, under which Bhubaneswar falls, reported the highest number of new cases at 562, followed by Cuttack (243), Sambalpur (136) and Angul (128), he said.

Four fatalities each were reported in Khurda and Balasore districts, two each in Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj and Nayagarh and one each in Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts, the official said. Ganjam district has so far reported the highest number of coronavirus deaths at 221, followed by Khurda (159) and Cuttack (82).

Odisha now has 29,443 active coronavirus cases, while 2,13,672 people have been cured of the disease so far, he said. Fifty-three coronavirus patients have succumbed to other ailments so far, the official said. The state has so far tested 36.19 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 49,909 on Wednesday, he added.
