Odisha: CM Naveen Patnaik launches healthcare projects worth Rs 400 cr

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced healthcare projects of around Rs. 400 crore for the State's district hospitals

The Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced health care projects of around Rs. 400 crore for the State's district hospitals. This move comes 10 days after the Chief Minister launched the ‘Mo Sarkar', the feedback on governance initiative on October 2.

'Peoples' participation has been very inspiring'

As a part of the initiative, the Government also sent senior officers across the State with a directive to cover 15 districts. According to the government officials, feedback on people's participation has been encouraging. Naveen Patnaik spoke to the media and said that the response to the initiative has been overwhelming. He also said that he made 120 phone calls to take feedback of people visiting hospitals and Police stations. 

 "As part of our strategy, I had sent senior officers across the State with a directive to cover at least 15 districts, the feedback on peoples' participation has been very inspiring and the response by both police and health functionaries in the field has been very encouraging," the Chief Minister said. 

Hospitals to benefit from the initiative

The State Government will also provide Rs. 15 lakh to four 'Rogi Kalyan Samities' from the Chief Minister Relief Fund for the patients. Rs. 10 lakh will also be spent on promotion of blood donation activities under the new initiative. Doctors will also benefit from the initiative as proper accommodations will be provided to doctors of Malkangiri District. Detailed planning has also been approved for a composite hospital with 500 beds at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and hospital. This initiative will also provide 200 beds and three ambulances.

Odisha Govt conducts surprise check at district hospitals

The Odisha Government on Sunday conducted surprise check at district headquarters hospital in Puri. According to an official release, three teams comprising of officials of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) and health department visited the hospitals. According to reports, the government suspended Sundergarh's Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) in-charge Pankaj Patel for alleged negligence of duty. Further, they also issued a show-cause notice to district collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan for alleged lapses in implementing the programme in the Sundergarh District Headquarters Hospital. The Chief Minister then assured that actions will be taken against negligence in the government offices, police stations and hospitals.
