An old video that resurfaced on the internet has netizens laughing since Tuesday. Pankaj Nain, an Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer shared an video on Twitter after the implementation of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019. The Act's strict rules have statred to lead a lot of people to find ways to avoid a hefty fine. In the video tweeted by IPS Pankaj Nain, a number of people without helmets are walking with their motorcycles past traffic police to avoid a fine. According to the IPS Officer, walking without a helmet is not illegal.

Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019

The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, has increased the minimum compensation of hit and run cases ranging from Rs 50,000 to two lakh rupees. It has also increased fines for several offences under the Act, such as, rash driving, driving without license, drinking and driving, driving without a helmet, and so on. Along with this, the fine for jumping a red light signal has also been increased.

Under this Bill, the central government will also now be able to order for a recall of defected motor vehicles that may harm anyone.

Few cases who recieved a challan

As these new traffic rules have come into force, a large number of people have paid hefty fines for breaking the rules. Earlier in Gurgaon, an autorickshaw driver was handed a challan of Rs 32,500 after he had jumped the red light. In a similar case in Bhubhaneswar, a drunk auto driver was found under the influence of alcohol. According to sources, he was not carrying any of the needed documents as well. He was charged with Rs 47,500. In another tweet, IPS Pankaj Nain tweeted a funny image defining the drink and driving rule.
