In a shocking incident, a tent collapsed in the Barmer district of Rajasthan killing almost 14 people. The tent was of a pandal of a Ramayana Katha. It is being said that storm and heavy rain had hit the district.
Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot has announced a probe into the tragedy. Prime Minister also expressed his concern about the issue.
In a series of tweets, CM Ashok Gehlot announced a probe into the tragedy.
Gehlot said, "The loss of lives in the accident in Jasol, Barmer due to collapse of tents during Ram Katha is very sad, unfortunate. God is praying for peace to the soul of the departed, to give peace to the bereaved families. I wish speedy recovery to the injured."
"Relief and rescue work is being carried out by the local administration. The concerned authorities have been instructed to investigate the incident, ensure speedy treatment of the injured and provide all possible assistance to the affected and their families," Gehlot added.
Sources have said that the injured people have been admitted to the nearby hospital. Earlier reports also suggested that few people died due to electrocution because of electric wires.
Col. Sonaram Choudhary, a BJP politician while speaking to Republic TV said: "This is an unfortunate event. There was a religious event and there was pandal and due to monsoon and storm, electricity wires were on and electrocution led to the death of many. Now, an investigation will proof whose fault it was."
